How to find an Airbnb with balcony in Vietnam

I like balconies when I travel...

Maybe you're a spoiled gringo like me and prefer to book rooms with balconies when you travel. The best platform for month-long stays is Airbnb and they don't have a filter for balconies or patios like Agoda or Booking does.

So what to do? I don’t want to spend half the day clicking on every listing in the area. There has to be a better way and there is.

Here is the actual breakdown of how to force Airbnb to show you listings with a balcony.

The root of the issue is that hosts can tag their properties with outdoor features, and Airbnb assigns internal numeric codes to them—for example, code 100 maps to "Patio / Balcony". However, because Airbnb chooses not to display a "Balcony" toggle in the front-end user interface, you have to use a few backdoor strategies to pull that data.

1. The URL Parameter Hack (Most Reliable)

You can manually inject the hidden amenity code directly into your search browser's address bar on a desktop or laptop.

  1. Go to Airbnb on a desktop browser, enter your destination, dates, and guests, and hit search.
  2. Click on the address bar at the top of your browser, scroll all the way to the end of the long URL string, and paste this exact text inside quotes: “ &amenities%5B%5D=100 “
  3. Hit Enter to reload the page.

The page will refresh, filtering your exact search parameters to only display properties where the host explicitly checked the hidden "Patio / Balcony" amenity box.

2. The Google Dorking Method

Because Airbnb's internal database structure can be rigid (and some hosts forget to check the specific amenity box), many hosts just type "private balcony" or "wraparound terrace" directly into their text descriptions. You can use Google to scrape these descriptions.

In a standard Google search bar, type a string like this:

site:[airbnb.com/rooms](https://airbnb.com/rooms) "balcony" "Ho Chi Minh City"

  • The Catch: While this surfaces highly accurate matches for the keyword, clicking the links means you have to manually input your travel dates and guest counts for every single listing to see if it’s actually available.

3. Alternative Sites with Native Filters

If you get tired of fighting the interface, the fastest route is often to look at booking platforms that treat outdoor spaces as standard, top-tier filters.

  • Booking.com: Includes a highly reliable, explicit "Balcony" and "Terrace" filter under the "Room facilities" sidebar section.
  • Vrbo: Features an explicit "Deck / Patio" or "Balcony" filter under their outdoor spaces menu.
  • HomeToGo (or regional equivalents): Platforms like HomesToGo actively aggregate multi-platform listings and allow you to filter strictly by yard, patio, or balcony before redirecting you.

Sidenote: I like using the first method. You get to stay on the platform and find what you’re looking for.
