 ESL: This refers to the study or practice of learning English by non-native speakers. In the context of this website, it describes the actual classes or programs you will be teaching. 

 Visa: An official document or passport endorsement that grants a foreigner legal permission to enter, leave, or stay in a country for a specific period. For teachers in Asia, this usually transitions from a tourist entry to a formal business or work visa. 

 TEFL: This certification qualifies you to teach English to non-native speakers in countries where English is not the primary language. It is the most widely recognized credential for landing a teaching job across Asia. 

TESOL: A broad term and certification that encompasses teaching English both abroad and within English-speaking countries to immigrants or students. In Asia, schools often use TEFL and TESOL interchangeably during the hiring process. 

 TRC: A long-term identity document issued by Vietnamese immigration that allows foreign workers to reside and travel in the country without a visa. It is typically valid for one to two years and is tied directly to your legal employment contract. 

CEFR : The international standard used to describe and measure language proficiency on a six-level scale from A1 (beginner) to C2 (mastery). Many job adverts in Asia use these levels to specify the target proficiency required for their students.

 PET: An intermediate-level Cambridge English proficiency exam mapped to CEFR Level B1. Passing a PET indicates a student can understand factual information and express opinions in familiar, routine settings.

 KET: An internationally recognized Cambridge English proficiency exam representing an elementary/basic level (CEFR Level A2). It assesses reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for everyday, basic situations.

Sweet Willy: noun /sweēt wil-ē/ 

1. A male who is being romantic, attentive, or affectionate toward a female partner.
2. A playful, teasing label used by a group of male friends to describe a buddy who is unavailable for group bonding because he is spending time with his significant other. Example: "Don't bother calling James this weekend, he's being Sweet Willy."
